Our client, a highly successful Ugandan bank that is looking to expand its operations into the East Africa region is looking to hire a Chief Banking Officer, to drive its business operations. With responsibility for the corporate, retail and treasury functions, the Chief Banking Officer will assume overall responsibility for all income streams and will therefore be the primary contributor to bank revenue and profits.
Specific duties will include:
* Defining the bank’s market positioning within Uganda and the wider region and ensuring that all communication, marketing and brand promotion activities reflect this positioning;
* Developing a strategy for market share growth within Uganda and for successful penetration of the region, that is in harmony with the agreed market positioning;
* Driving business planning, including the setting of performance targets for each business unit, and identification of opportunities for new product and service introduction and monitoring performance to ensure the achievement of those targets;
* Ensuring that deposit, loan and non-interest income targets are achieved and that value from the bank’s extensive branch network is maximized;
* Maximising service quality with the intent of driving the bank towards its goal of using customer satisfaction to drive its growth objective;
* Driving the bank’s efforts to embrace technology as the primary service medium so as to enhance operational efficiency;
* Working in conjunction with the HR function to develop a team of highly qualified and high performing staff within the bank.
Requirements
* Relevant university degree
* 10 years of experience in the banking sector.
* Experience in strategic planning, formulation and execution and systems development and implementation.
* Experience of setting and enforcing standards within a similar environment; general knowledge of marketing, finance, budgeting, and cost control principles.
* Deep consumer understanding, with a keenness and capacity to drive deposit and loan growth while ensuring and safeguarding profitability.
* Excellent track record of building successful banking operations.
* Superior written and verbal communication, interpersonal and team working skills with an ability to coach and motivate teams.
* Strong networking and negotiation skills.
